Kintsugi Workshop: Repair and Reconnect

The International Museum of Surgical Science hosts an afternoon workshop on the Japanese practice of Kintsugi — repairing broken pottery with gold — led by multidisciplinary artist Mami Takahashi. This all-levels session runs Sunday, November 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, covering the modern method using food-safe adhesive, epoxy putty, and a golden finish. Beginners receive a broken porcelain plate to repair; returning students may bring their own clean ceramic objects or choose from more complex pieces supplied by the instructor. The workshop frames the repair process as a meditation on imperfection and transformation rather than erasure. Admission, materials, and museum entry are included in the $75 fee.
