Kintsugi Workshop: Repair and Reconnect
Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, is the focus of a three-hour workshop at the International Museum of Surgical Science. Led by multidisciplinary artist Mami Takahashi, the session teaches a modern, food-safe method using epoxy putty and gold finish — no prior experience needed, and a broken porcelain plate is provided for beginners. Returning students can bring their own ceramic pieces. The workshop treats breakage as part of an object’s story rather than something to hide, making for a meditative, hands-on afternoon. It takes place Sunday, September 20, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
