Japan in Practice Exhibit Opening: The Way of Tea

The International Museum of Surgical Science opens a thoughtful new exhibition on Japanese tea ceremony, titled "The Way of Tea," as part of its rotating "Japan in Practice" series. The opening reception takes place Friday, September 18, from 6 to 8 PM, and the show itself presents tea utensils and related objects from the Japanese Culture Center of Chicago, including pieces from the collections of two late tea practitioners and Mami Takahashi. Video documentation accompanies the ceramics and tools, tracing how cultural knowledge passes through objects, gestures, and the relationship between host and guest.
