Michael Staudenmaier discusses his new book *White, Black, Brown: Becoming Puerto Rican in Chicago*, a history of how Puerto Rican organizers in the city navigated race, nationalism, and resistance from the mid-20th century through the present. Drawing on archival material, Staudenmaier traces the shift from assimilationist strategies to nationalist militancy after the 1966 Division Street Riots, and later into electoral politics and coalition-building under the banner of Latinidad. He appears in conversation with WTTW News correspondent Joanna Hernandez at the Harold Washington Library Center on Tuesday, September 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Doors open at 5:00, seating is first come, first served; the event also streams live on the library's YouTube and Facebook pages, where questions can be submitted.
