Walking Tour | Historic Prairie Avenue

A guided walking tour through the Gilded Age history of Prairie Avenue, led by researcher Tony Szabelski. On Sunday, October 25, at noon, participants explore “Millionaire’s Row,” hearing about its Second Empire and Richardson Romanesque homes, the neighborhood’s mid-century decline, and the preservation efforts that earned it a spot on the National Register in 1972. The tour also covers lingering ghost stories tied to the Kimball House and Marshall Field Jr. Mansion. The 1.5- to 2-mile walk meets at Glessner House (1800 S. Prairie Ave.) and ends at Second Presbyterian Church (1936 S. Michigan Ave.); registration is $25 ($22.50 for museum members), and the price includes free admission to the Chicago History Museum for one week.
