A CHM History Buff volunteer guide leads this walking tour through the Gold Coast, where Chicago's wealthiest families—the McCormicks, Palmers, and Ryersons—built their mansions before the 1920s. The route takes in ornate architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan, a rare wood-block alleyway, and the Archbishop's Residence, with commentary on how the area became a wealthy enclave buffered from the city's mid-century decline. The tour meets at the Chicago History Museum on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 AM, runs 1.5 to 2 hours, and includes free museum admission good for one week. $25, $22.50 for members; masks are optional outdoors.
