A Chicago History Museum guide leads this walking tour through the Gold Coast, the stretch of lakefront property where the city's wealthiest families—McCormicks, Palmers, Ryersons—built their mansions before the DuSable Bridge opened in 1920. The route takes in architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan, a rare wood-block alleyway, and the Archbishop's Residence, with the guide weaving in the neighborhood's social history (immortalized in Harvey Warren Zorbaugh's 1929 book). The tour runs 1.5 to 2 hours on Saturday, September 12, starting at 10 AM from the museum. Tickets are $25 ($22.50 for members) and include free museum admission good for one week.
