Spotlight Talk: Coronation Stone of Moctezuma Xocoyotzin
Join us in the galleries for a short 30-minute talk on the Coronation Stone of Moctezuma Xocoyotzin. This monument uses glyphs to record the history of the Mexica universe up to 1503.
Just as these glyphs recurred throughout the Mexica capital, Tenochtitlan, they can also be found in Chicago: 4 Movement appears in a mural at the 18th Street “L” stop and on manhole covers in Pilsen—a neighborhood that has long been home to Chicago’s vibrant Mexican community.
On select UNIQLO Third Thursdays, we’re hosting short, 30-minute talks across the museum to take a special look at singular artists and artworks. Explore other spotlight talks here .
what to expect This program will begin in Gallery 161, which is accessible via elevator and stairs in the Rice Building of American Art. The program will last 30 minutes. ASL interpretation is available upon request at museum_interpretation@artic.edu . Requests must be made at least two weeks in advance.
