A gallery conversation at the Art Institute of Chicago uses the contemporary installation *Corn Mountain of Life (Ixim Juyu K’aslem)* by Guatemalan artist Edgar Calel as a starting point to explore the enduring significance of corn in Maya culture, from ancient mythology to modern sculpture. Elizabeth Pope, a senior research associate in Arts of the Americas, and Gaby Lavalle, a tour specialist, lead the 90-minute talk on Friday, September 11, starting at 2 PM in Gallery 161 before moving to Bluhm Terrace on the second floor of the Modern Wing. The outdoor portion is weather-dependent. Free with museum admission; no registration required.
