Meet Calvin B. Jones: Make a Mini-Mural

Calvin B. Jones painted six murals on Chicago's South and West sides between 1976 and 1987, working within the Black Arts Movement and drawing from the AfriCOBRA collective's "Cool-Ade colors." This Sunday, September 20, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, the Richard J. Daley-Bridgeport branch hosts a hands-on program for families to learn about Jones's life and work while making a mini-mural inspired by his bold, African print–inflected style. The session also explores the question of whose murals get preserved, and is part of the library's Renaissance Project highlighting under-told Black history stories. Registration is required.
