Lecture: Body and Being in African Art

The human body sits at the center of much of the art in this new African art presentation, and this lecture digs into why. Curator Constantine Petridis, the Rita Knox Chair and Curator of Arts of Africa, leads the discussion of how the body—whether depicted literally, abstracted, or adorned—functions as a reflection of character, health, and social belonging in the works on view in Gallery 227. The talk takes place Thursday evening, November 5, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in Fullerton Hall. The program is free with museum admission, but registration is required in advance.
