Lecture: The King, His Armor, and His Armorer—Conserving Britain's Royal Collection
Simon Metcalf, who oversaw the Royal Collection of Arms & Armour for the Queen and then the King for 22 years, talks about the craft and conservation of centuries-old British armor at Fullerton Hall on Saturday, September 26, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Metcalf explains how royal armor was simultaneously cutting-edge science, art, fashion, and diplomacy, and how a few rare pieces ended up in the Art Institute's collection. The lecture is free with museum admission, but registration is required.
