
Handy Hieroglyphs A beginners guide to impressing friends and colleagues (in museums)
A six-week online course that teaches the basics of reading Egyptian hieroglyphs, aimed at museum-goers who want to understand the inscriptions on statues, stelae, and other objects. Instructor Kea Johnston, an Egyptologist and postdoctoral researcher at the Field Museum and ISAC, covers the hieroglyphic alphabet, names of rulers and gods, and common phrases found on display. The class meets Thursdays from October 15 to November 19, 6 to 8 PM, live on Zoom with recordings available afterward. Registration is $90.
