Chicago: The Birthplace of Black History Tour with Dilla the Urban Historian
A bus tour led by urban historian Sherman “Dilla” Thomas, this afternoon outing traces the roots of Black history as an academic discipline through key Chicago locations. Dilla guides participants to sites connected to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, founded in 1915 at the Wabash YMCA, and contextualizes how the city became central to preserving and studying Black heritage. The tour meets on Saturday, November 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, presented by the Chicago Public Library as part of the Renaissance Project. Registration is required for this free program.
