Sherman "Dilla" Thomas, Chicago's own urban historian, leads a bus tour that argues Chicago is the birthplace of Black history as an academic discipline. The two-hour tour on Saturday, September 12, from 11 AM to 1 PM, visits key locations tied to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, founded at the Wabash YMCA in 1915. This program is part of the Chicago Public Library's Renaissance Project, and while registration is required, the tour itself is free. Sign language and other accessibility requests need to be made at least 14 business days ahead.
