Black Poetry Day at the American Writers Museum brings a free afternoon of readings by Chicago poets to coincide with the Loop Arts District Festival. On Saturday, October 17, the program features local poets like Wesley Frazier, Keys, Kenyatta Rogers, Kira Tucker, and Lotus Fulton, emceed by Faylita Hicks, each reading from their favorite Black poets. Admission covers both the reading and full access to the museum’s exhibits, including *Dark Testament: A Century of Black Writers on Justice*. The event honors National Black Poetry Day, observed on the birthday of Jupiter Hammon, the first Black poet published in the U.S., and is presented with the Guild Literary Complex.
