ARCE-ISAC Joint Lecture: Treasure Fit for a Queen: Royal Burials from el-Kurru, Sudan

The ARCE-ISAC joint lecture on Saturday evening, November 7, from 5 to 6 PM, examines the royal burials of eighth-century BCE queens at el-Kurru in northern Sudan. Dr. Denise Doxey, the Norma Jean Calderwood Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, discusses the spectacular jewelry and vessels found in these tombs — objects that show the exchange of funerary beliefs and artistic styles between the kingdom of Kush and its neighbors, alongside distinctively Nubian pieces. The talk takes place in person at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures and on Zoom, and is free to attend.
