American Prophets: The Platinum Age of Gospel (ONLINE)

Minister, gospel artist, and Harvard scholar Charrise Barron visits the American Writers Museum — virtually — on Thursday, December 3 to discuss her new book *The Platinum Age of Gospel*, which examines how Black gospel music crossed into the mainstream between 1993 and 2013 and reshaped American popular culture. Barron traces the shift from traditional church sounds to the commercial, hip-hop and R&B-infused work of artists like Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary, asking what gospel gained and lost along the way. This is a livestream of an in-person program, so registered viewers get access to the link but don't need to be at the museum.
