
America: Songs of Protest and Freedom at Clarendon
A multi-genre concert of spoken word and music marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, written and narrated by journalist Cheryl Corley and led by singer-songwriter Lucy Smith. The program weaves together Walt Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing” with songs from Curtis Mayfield, John Lennon, and Beyoncé, tracing the country’s history from its founding to the present. The performance takes place Saturday, August 22, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Clarendon Community Center Park in Uptown.
