America: Songs of Protest and Freedom at Clarendon

A multi-genre concert of spoken word and music marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, written and narrated by award-winning journalist Cheryl Corley. The performance, which features a band led by singer/songwriter Lucy Smith, traces America’s story from its founding to the 21st century through texts by Walt Whitman and other American authors, alongside songs including Curtis Mayfield’s “This is My Country,” John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and Beyoncé’s “Freedom.” It takes place Saturday, August 22, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Clarendon Community Center Park in Uptown.
