Adult Book Discussion: Whale by Myeong-kwan Cheon

The Richard J. Daley-Bridgeport Library hosts a morning book discussion of Myeong-kwan Cheon’s *The Whale*, a novel set in a remote Jeju village in the 1950s and following three mythic characters: an ambitious woman chasing a thrill first sparked by a whale sighting, her mute daughter who communicates with elephants, and a one-eyed woman who controls honeybees with a whistle. The book is a satirical, cinematic take on modernity and myth, with plenty of surprises and dark humor. The group meets Tuesday, November 24, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at the library. Free and open to the public; accessibility requests can be made by calling (312) 747-8184 or emailing access@chipublib.org at least 14 business days ahead.
