This fall reading group, co-facilitated by CPL Renaissance Project Scholar Jahan Choudhry and Meghna Chandra, examines Chicago’s Black labor and civil rights history through archival materials from the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collections. Participants read aloud speeches by Charles Hayes, Addie Wyatt, and Harold Washington, alongside texts by Du Bois, Martin Luther King Jr., and James Baldwin. No advance preparation is required — materials are provided, followed by a facilitated discussion. The group meets Monday, November 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Chicago Bee. Registration is active.
