Writing in the Galleries: The Pictorial and Proverbial
Writing in the Galleries invites visitors to slow down and respond to art through words, this time inside *Jill Mulleady: The Passenger* at the Art Institute. The session takes its cue from art historian Alexander Nemerov’s writing on Bruegel and Arbus, using open-ended prompts to explore Mulleady’s charged, ambiguous paintings—figures and settings that feel familiar yet resist easy reading. Facilitator Kristen French, who designs in-gallery programs for the museum, leads the evening on Thursday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, meeting in Gallery 289. Bring a notebook and pencil; extras and folding stools are provided. Free with museum admission, no registration required, and ASL interpretation is available with two weeks’ notice.
