Whisk Broom Weaving with Abeni Pierson
Discover the craft and cultural history of broom making in a hands-on workshop with Abeni Pierson at the DuSable Black History Museum. The session covers the cultivation of broomcorn, the role of brooms in traditions of labor and protection across cultures, and traditional weaving techniques. Participants create Appalachian-style turkey wing and hawk tail mini brooms using pine needles, then build a broomcorn whisk broom, taking home two to three finished pieces. The workshop takes place Sunday, October 25, 2026, starting at noon; tickets are $55.20.
