What did Tanyka eat? Reconstructing the diet of an ancient Brazilian tetrapod

Hear about the research into the diet of Tanyka, a Permian stem tetrapod from Brazil, at the Field Museum on Friday, September 11, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Tanyka is known only from its jaws, which have extensive fields of tiny teeth on their inner surface—unique features suggesting a different diet than other early tetrapods from over 275 million years ago. Researchers, including Syd Joheim (Prince Intern) and Ken Angielczyk (MacArthur Curator of Paleomammalogy), will explain how they compare tooth complexity and examine micro-wear patterns to reconstruct what Tanyka might have eaten. The talk is included with museum admission.
