Share Your Story: A Community Archiving Event
Have important family documents that you want to preserve? Join the Avalon Branch in telling your story and preserving your memories.
Staff from the University of Chicago Library will be here to assist library patrons in scanning personal materials —including photographs, letters, and personal memorabilia—and sharing guidance on how to preserve these important items for future generations.
Digitization is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may scan up to 15 individual items, including documents, photographs, or flat memorabilia (up to 8.5 x 11 inches). Due to limited capacity, guests are encouraged to bring their most meaningful materials.
The first 25 participants will receive a free Archive-in-a-Box kit. These kits include basic preservation supplies and step-by-step guidance to help individuals safely store, organize, and care for personal and family archives at home—supporting the long-term preservation of photographs, documents, and keepsakes.
