Sculpt Like Hunt and Perkins: A Creative Sculpting Workshop

A sculpting workshop at the Austin branch of the Chicago Public Library on Monday, October 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, spotlighting the work of two major Black Chicago sculptors. Artist Joy Joshua leads participants through hands-on projects inspired by Richard Hunt and Marion Perkins — think mixed-media sculptures using clay, wire, cardboard, and paint, with options for modular forms, figurative abstractions, or designs tied to your own neighborhood. It’s a rare chance to engage directly with the techniques and legacy of Hunt, who completed 160 public sculpture commissions nationwide, while also learning about Perkins.
