Reel Queer Film Screening & Artist Talk (LGBTQIA+ History/Latine Heritage Month edition): Amigas Latinas Forever (2023)
A screening of *Amigas Latinas Forever*, an experimental documentary short that weaves the filmmaker’s mother’s account of being a Latina lesbian and single parent in 1980s Chicago with archival footage of the Amigas Latinas organization, cable TV broadcasts, protests, and scenes of queer familia. Filmmaker Jose Luis Benavides and artist Amanda Cervantes are on hand afterward to talk about using historic materials for modern audiences, and attendees can handle reproductions of those materials. The screening takes place Saturday, October 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Yollocalli Arts Reach in Little Village, with doors at 1:00 and the film starting at 1:15. Project VIDA will be on-site offering no-cost STI testing, harm reduction supplies, and resource information. Part of the monthly Reel Queer LGBTQIA+ film series; snacks and non-alcoholic beverages welcome.
