Meet Geraldine Lane Mardis: A Hands-on Beauty Workshop
Geraldine Lane Mardis was a Parker High School and University of Chicago graduate whose career in pediatric healthcare was overshadowed for decades by a 1939 beauty contest controversy. This workshop at Woodson Regional on Monday, October 5, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, digs into her full story and the evolving standards of beauty that shaped it. Esthetician LaGena Cain leads hands-on practice with natural beauty techniques, and the library’s archives provide primary-source context. Part of the Renaissance Project series highlighting untold Black history at Chicago Public Library. Registration is active; free to attend.
