Meet Geraldine Lane Mardis: A Hands-on Beauty Workshop
A hands-on workshop at the Kelly branch of the Chicago Public Library explores the story of Geraldine Lane Mardis, a Parker High School and University of Chicago graduate who made headlines in 1939 after being asked to withdraw from a college beauty contest. On Tuesday, September 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, esthetician LaGena Cain leads a conversation about evolving beauty standards and a practical session on accentuating natural beauty. The event is part of the Renaissance Project, which invites participants to engage with untold stories of Black history and heritage. Registration is required.
