Meet: Fritz Pollard - The Fredrick Douglass of Football – Make a Team Pennant

Fritz Pollard, a Chicago-born Lane Tech graduate, became the first Black head coach in NFL history in 1921. This Sulzer Regional workshop tells his story, then invites participants to design and make their own felt pennant — representing a favorite team, community, or whatever inspires them. It takes place on Saturday, December 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Part of the Chicago Public Library’s Renaissance Project, the program explores untold chapters of Black history and heritage in the city.
