Meet: Fritz Pollard - The Fredrick Douglass of Football – Make a Team Pennant
Fritz Pollard, a Chicago-born Lane Tech graduate, became the first African American head coach in NFL history in 1921, and this workshop at the Chicago Bee on Wednesday, October 21, from 4 to 5 PM, introduces his story to a family audience. Participants design their own felt pennant representing a favorite team, community, or hobby, with archival materials from the library’s collection available for deeper exploration. Part of the Renaissance Project, the program highlights overlooked chapters of Black history in Chicago.
