Meet: Fritz Pollard - The Fredrick Douglass of Football – Make a Team Pennant

The Chicago Public Library hosts a workshop on Thursday, October 15, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM that spotlights Fritz Pollard, a Chicago-born Lane Tech graduate who became the NFL's first Black head coach in 1921. Participants design a felt pennant representing a favorite team, community, or idea while learning about Pollard's legacy. Part of the Renaissance Project, the program is family-friendly and draws on the library's archival holdings. Held at the Independence branch in Irving Park.
