Meet: Fritz Pollard - The Fredrick Douglass of Football – Make a Team Pennant
A Saturday morning workshop at Oriole Park digs into the story of Fritz Pollard, a Chicago-born Lane Tech grad who became the NFL's first Black head coach in 1921. The family-friendly program runs from 11 AM to 12 PM on October 10 and includes a hands-on craft: participants design their own felt pennant representing a favorite team, community, or idea. It's part of the Renaissance Project series at Chicago Public Library, supported by the Mellon Foundation, spotlighting lesser-known chapters of Black history in Chicago. Registration is required.
