Meet Chester Commodore: Drawing and Illustration 101
Artist Anthony Fowler Jr. leads a drawing and comic book illustration workshop at Wrightwood-Ashburn on Tuesday, October 6, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, inspired by the work of Chester Commodore. Commodore was a pioneering African American cartoonist whose nearly 50-year career at the Chicago Defender used art to advocate for racial justice and human rights, including a famous 1954 editorial cartoon on *Brown v. Board of Education*. Fowler guides participants through selected archive pieces before teaching basic drawing and comic illustration techniques, with an emphasis on telling your own stories. Registration is required; check the library for availability.
