Meet Chester Commodore: Drawing and Illustration 101
A drawing and illustration workshop at the Canaryville branch that doubles as a deep-dive into the work of Chester Commodore, the influential African American editorial cartoonist whose nearly 50-year career at the *Chicago Defender* helped push back against racist caricature. Artist Anthony Fowler Jr. leads the session on Saturday, October 3, from 2 to 3 PM, starting with a look at original pieces from the library’s archive before guiding participants through drawing and comic-book techniques meant to help them tell their own stories. The program is part of the Chicago Public Library’s Renaissance Project, supported by the Mellon Foundation. Free, with registration required.
