
Meet Captain Walter H. Dyett: A Concert Performance
A live jazz quartet performance at Woodson Regional honors the legacy of Captain Walter H. Dyett, the DuSable High School band instructor who trained Nat King Cole, Dinah Coleman, Dinah Washington, and dozens of other jazz greats. On Saturday, December 12, from noon to 1 PM, the Charles Heath Quartet plays a 45-minute set focusing on the work of Dyett’s internationally renowned tenor saxophone students, preceded by a brief 15-minute historical overview. Presented as part of the Renaissance Project at Chicago Public Library, this event is free and open to the public. Sign language interpretation is available with 14 business days' notice.
