Meet Captain Walter H. Dyett: A Concert Performance

A live jazz quartet performance at the Walker branch on Sunday, August 30, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, honoring the legacy of Captain Walter H. Dyett, the legendary DuSable High School band director who trained Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, and a generation of Chicago tenor saxophonists. The Charles Heath Quartet performs a 45-minute set, preceded by a brief 15-minute history of Dyett’s influence. Presented as part of the Renaissance Project, exploring untold stories of Black history at the Chicago Public Library. Free.
