Meet Calvin B. Jones: Make a Mini-Mural

On Monday, December 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, Bucktown-Wicker Park hosts a family workshop exploring the legacy of Calvin B. Jones, a muralist active in the Black Arts Movement and influenced by Chicago's AfriCOBRA collective. Participants learn about Jones’s 1970s and 80s South and West side murals through archival materials, then create a mini mural using his signature bold "Cool-Ade" colors and African print patterns. The program, part of the Chicago Public Library's Renaissance Project, aims to recover untold Black history stories—plus it asks a pointed question about whose public art gets preserved.
