Meet Calvin B. Jones: Make a Mini-Mural
This Wednesday, September 23, from 5 to 6 PM, the South Chicago branch of the Chicago Public Library hosts a family workshop on the late muralist Calvin B. Jones, a figure in the Black Arts Movement influenced by the AfriCOBRA collective. After a brief look at archival materials and a discussion of whose public art gets preserved, participants make a mini-mural using Jones’s signature bold colors and African print motifs. The program is free and open to all ages, part of the library’s Renaissance Project series exploring Black history and heritage. Request accessibility accommodations at least 14 business days in advance.
