Meet Calvin B. Jones: Make a Mini-Mural
Artist Calvin B. Jones painted six murals across Chicago's South and West sides between 1976 and 1987, working within the Black Arts Movement and drawing on the vibrant "Cool-Ade colors" of the AfriCOBRA collective. This hands-on family program at the Chicago Lawn branch on Saturday, September 12, from 2 to 3 PM uses his work to ask a pointed question — whose murals get saved? — then lets participants make their own mini-mural inspired by Jones's bold palette and African print designs. Presented as part of the Chicago Public Library's Renaissance Project, the workshop is free and open to all ages; registration is active.
