Mazon Creek: Illinois' Tropical History
The Mazon Creek region is a fossil rich area approximately 60 miles away from Chicago. Fossil hunters have traveled there for decades to search for evidence of what life looked like long ago. The fossil evidence paints a picture of a 300 million year old tropical forest adjacent to a shallow marine environment.
