Join Library of Congress Innovator in Residence, Vivian Li, and CPL archives staff for an exciting zine-making workshop. Learn how you can research your neighborhood by using the special collections at the Chicago Public Library and transform your findings into a zine.

Zines are small handmade art books that can contain words, illustrations or photos. We will experiment with how reproductions of archival materials and zines can document your neighborhood: whether that documentation is of the past, present or the future you want to see.

Vivian Li is a comics artist, zinester, and amateur researcher based in Seattle, WA. She was the 2024 Artist in Residence at the Fremont Bridge in Seattle, where she visited her city archives for the first time. Since then, she has discovered how fun it is to do research through libraries and archives and is currently serving as the Innovator in Residence at the Library of Congress. Her project, Anywhere Adventures , shares local history stories about Seattle, Southeast Wyoming, and Chicago through comics and archival items.

For anyone 6 and up.
