Let the Church Say Amen! - Make a Hand-Held Fan

A hands-on workshop at the North Austin branch of the Chicago Public Library that pulls from CPL's Archives and Special Collections to explore the history of Black churches in Chicago. Participants examine artifacts from several collections — including the iconic hand-held fan — to see how faith communities have preserved history, supported social change, and shaped civic engagement. Then you personalize your own version of the fan. The program runs Monday, December 21, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, as part of the Renaissance Project highlighting Black history and heritage at the library.
