ISAC Exhibit: Hartapu: The Forgotten King of Anatolia
The ISAC Museum's fall exhibition tells the story of a king who, until very recently, was unknown to history. In 2019, an inscribed stone pulled from an irrigation canal in central Türkiye revealed Hartapu, an eighth-century BCE ruler who claimed to have conquered Phrygia, and pointed to a massive, overlooked tell on the Konya Plain as his capital. The exhibition draws on archaeological finds from excavations launched in 2024, ancient inscriptions, and new technologies like 3D printing and advanced imaging to reconstruct Hartapu's kingdom, which sat between Phrygia and the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Contemporary works by artist SaraNoa Mark offer a reflective counterpoint on landscape and memory. The show runs from September 17, 2026 through March 14, 2027, during regular museum hours, and is included with museum admission. It opens on Thursday, December 10, though note that no specific opening time is listed.
