Inspiration from the Archives with avery r. young

Inspiration from the Archives combines archival research with creative writing in a two-part workshop that requires attendance at both sessions. A CPL archivist first demonstrates how to navigate the library’s online and in-person collections, with a focus on the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection. Then Chicago’s inaugural Poet Laureate, avery r. young, leads a writing workshop exploring how archival materials have historically fueled creative work and how they can continue to do so. The program takes place Monday, November 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Manning, as part of the Renaissance Project, a Mellon Foundation initiative to digitize and activate CPL’s archives.
