Inspiration from the Archives with avery r. young
Inspiration from the Archives pairs research skills with creative practice across two sessions led by Chicago’s inaugural Poet Laureate, avery r. young, and a CPL archivist. The program begins with an archivist showing participants how to access the Chicago Public Library’s collections both online and in person, with a focus on the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection. Then young leads a writing workshop grounded in how archival materials can fuel creative work. Both sessions take place on Monday, September 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Obama Presidential Center. Attendance at both sessions is required. Presented through the Renaissance Project, a Mellon Foundation initiative to digitize and activate CPL’s archives. Free; registration opens soon.
