Hidden History of Native Americans on the Blue Island Ridge
A local historian and journalist with twenty-five years of research under her belt leads this talk on the Native American communities that lived along the Calumet River, long before Morgan Park, Beverly, and Blue Island were settled. The presentation covers the villages that once lined the waterway and walks through the 1833 Treaty of Chicago, the agreement that forced local tribes to cede their land and relocate to Iowa. It takes place Saturday, November 14, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Walker branch. Sign language interpretation is available with two weeks' notice.
