
Film Screening: Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes (2019)
A documentary screening that traces the history of Blue Note Records, the jazz label that launched Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and others, and continues to shape the conversation between jazz and hip hop today. The 86-minute film, directed by Sophie Huber, weaves together rare archival footage with recent interviews with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. The screening takes place Wednesday, November 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Altgeld branch. Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing will be available.
