Embroidered Traditions From Morocco to Afghanistan: Tour of the Art Institute's Textile Gallery
A curator-led tour of the Art Institute's Textile Gallery offers a focused look at "Embroidered Traditions from Morocco to Afghanistan," an exhibit featuring over 70 works from the 18th through 20th centuries. Most of these garments, jewelry, and adornments have never been shown publicly, including four rare face veils on loan from a private collector in Riyadh. Janet Purdy, the Barbara Franke Associate Curator in Textiles, leads the walkthrough on Thursday evening, December 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The museum is free that day and open until 8 PM, so you can explore other galleries after the tour ends. Meet at the Michigan Avenue or Monroe entrance to get a free ticket; Nancy from the Art Institute will guide the group to the lower-level gallery.
